Power Quality in Today's Sensitive Electrical Systems
Modern office buildings with a proliferation of office machines - PC's, displays, printers, FAX machines, etc. - are experiencing
high levels of harmonic distortion in the electrical power systems. All of these machines use switched mode power supply
technology and produce high levels of harmonic currents.
Traditional treatment of a high harmonics problem is to employ derated (or K-Rated) transformers
and oversize the neutrals. But, this method only provides a means for the power system to "tolerate" harmonic currents
and does nothing to address the effects of harmonic distortion. Power distribution systems with harmonic currents often
experience the following symptoms:
- High neutral currents causing overheated transformers and neutrals
- Common Mode Noise - high neutral to ground voltage
- Distorted voltage and current Waveforms
- Clock racing (those using Power Line Carrier Systems - Simplex Clocks)
- Premature motor burnout
- Power supply failures in computers, and other electronic equipment
- Nuisance tripping of circuit breakers and UPS backup systems
- Unexplained computer network failures
- Noticeable humming in telecommunication lines and/or interruptions
- Low Power Factor
United Energy Associates, Inc. has been successful in mitigating harmonic problems in today's sensitive electrical
systems. UEA's harmonic filters directly correct the harmonic distortion problem providing high quality power for modern
electronic machines and is guaranteed to work.
